Proud to be me! Autism Information Event

APRIL is Autism Acceptance Month and a drop-in support event for those who are Autistic will gather over 30 organisations from across Tameside to provide information and advice.

Proud to be me! an Autism information and consultation event takes place on Thursday April 25 at Active Oxford Park for people who are Autistic (including those waiting for a diagnosis or self-identifying), their families and carers.

People are welcome to drop-in between 1pm and 8pm to meet a variety of helpful organisations for support and advice. Organisations attending include Tameside’s Learning Disability Service, Shared Lives, The Tameside Carers Centre, Tameside and Glossop Mind, The Community Response Service (Telecare), Phantasagoriom, Active Tameside, The Tameside Autism Network, Routes to Work, Citizen’s Advice, the Early Help Team and many more.

The event is also a space for people to get involved with discussions about the making Tameside more Autism Friendly by focusing on areas such as belonging, advocacy, employment, and health. If people would like to, they can get involved with fun activities such as yoga, cooking, a tour of the gym, football and more.

A Tameside Spokesperson said: ‘’This unique event gives people who are Autistic, their families and carers the opportunity to directly access a wealth of information and support all in one place.

‘’Not only will there be over 30 organisations from across Tameside to talk to, but people can also take part in fun activities and share their thoughts on what to include our plans for how we can improve services for people who are Autistic in Tameside.’’
